How to find the star Sirius? a sun behind the sun…

Sirius is the brightest star in the Earth’s night sky, it’s actually a star system 8.7 light years distant. It is about twice as massive as the Sun and 25 times more luminous. It’s so bright that it can even be seen during the day in some areas.

Sirius appear already in the earliest astronomical records. Egyptians based their calendars on the rising of Sirius in the horizon, just before the annual flooding of the Nile and the summer solstice. Researchers have claimed that the Great Pyramid of Giza was built in perfect alignment with the stars, especially Sirius.

Bright stars are important for navigation, they act as a stellar compass to assist mariners and pilots in charting courses to particular destinations. They also serve as latitude markers.
